Merit Badge University PrerequisitesNovember 10, 2012Some merit badge requirements cannot be completed in a classroom setting. If the Scout does notcomplete these requirements or prerequisites before class, he can only receive partial credit for themerit badge. In some instances instructors may not be able to cover all aspects of the merit badgeduring class due to unforeseen situations, if this should occur the Scout will receive partial creditfor the work that was completed during the class. MBU can only give credit based upon thematerial that was covered in class and the work the Scout completed. If a partial Merit Badge isearned then the Scout is responsible for contacting another counselor to complete the merit badgeafter the event. MBU does not track incomplete merit badges and will not verify merit badgecompletion after the event.Please note: Due to the complexity of some merit badges and the desire for personal interaction with thecounselor, class size will be limited. Each Scout must read the merit badge pamphlet for each of his classes! Troop contacts should be aware that requirements have changed, so make sure Scouts use thecurrent pamphlet. Do not check out merit badge pamphlets from a library, unless you are sure itis the most recent revision. Encourage Scouts to purchase merit badge pamphlets early - theScout shop maintains a limited inventory. A helpful resource is Merit Badge Worksheets. Thesecan be found online at Meritbadge.com. Please compare to the Merit Badge requirements atScouting.org before printing. This is a full uniform event. Scouts must come prepared to actively discuss badges. Some merit badges require record keeping for 3 months or 90 days. Partial credit will begiven to Scouts who do not complete the required record keeping. It is the responsibility of the Scoutmaster to determine if a Scout has the necessary maturityto complete a particular merit badge.
